What is Poker?

Poker is a wide variety of card games that combine skill, gambling and – most importantly – strategy. When learning how to play poker online, it’s important to know that just because you or another player have a good hand, doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll automatically win. New to the game? Learn more about aspects of the game like hand rankings, common poker terms and some poker tips.

HAND RANKINGS

In a nutshell, a hand consists of five cards. Poker hands fall into one of several categories, such as flush, straight, or two pair. The player with the highest-ranked hand is the winner.

POKER TERMS

Poker is notorious for its lingo, so when you’re playing a game, you may sometimes come across words that are unfamiliar. We developed a glossary of terms to help you navigate the poker lingo with ease, making it accessible at all times.

POKER TIPS

First, players are dealt their hole cards, after which the first round of betting takes place. Next, the remaining players see a flop, followed by another round of betting. Next, a turn card is revealed. A round of betting follows before the final river card and the final round of betting. The best five-card hand wins!
